Sir Nigel Takes A Blue Ribbon
It was a great start to the Great Midwest Alpaca Festival for our suri alpaca farm today. We were up early this morning to get our true black male, Sir Nigel, ready for the showring. Nigel comes from a long tradition of strong herdsires from his dam, who has also produced our black 3-time Champion suri alpaca male, Napoleon Dynamite, and champion, Bad Bad Leroy Brown. Given the suri alpacas his dam has given us previously, Sir Nigel has some pretty high expectations to live up to.
The judge was full of praise for Sir Nigel when awarding him the first place ribbon. The judge commented that Sir Nigel had very nice luster extending down the extremities, good balance and conformation. He also noted that Nigel was exhibiting great fineness throughout his fleece. We were very pleased with the comments about Sir Nigel and glad to hear that his fiber is exhibiting the strength of suri traits like luster and fineness that we have seen from the previous crias out of his dam.
Unfortunately there was not enough black suri alpacas for Sir Nigel to compete for a championship this weekend, but aside from the praise from the judges, Sir Nigel got quite a few breeders that admired him as well. We think he is a pretty nice black suri alpaca and will go on to be a successful herdsire in the future.
We had a fun day getting to see a number of alpacas from our fellow breeders, and it was great to meet some new people that stopped by our stall. We’re back to get a good night rest then we have another day tomorrow. If you could not make it up to the Great Midwest Alpaca Fest today, take a trip up to see the rest of the alpaca show tomorrow. You won’t regret it!
