Spring is finally here and that means it is a great time to take a little road trip and go to some alpaca shows. While we have been very busy getting situated on our new alpaca farm, we wanted to get a few of our suri alpacas out to the shows this spring to be evaluated.
This weekend we are up in Madison, Wisconsin for the Great Midwest Alpaca Fest. This alpaca show is hosted inside one of our favorite venues, the Veteran’s Memorial Coliseum. It is a great place to watch an alpaca show. The plentiful stadium style seating makes it very easy to keep an eye on what is going on in the suri alpaca show ring, as well as the huacaya ring. The second floor is usually filled with so many great vendors selling high quality alpaca merchandise. It’s a great show for a new breeder to come see the alpacas being evaluated, and browse some of the great alpaca end products being produced today.
While there are not as many suri alpacas in attendance as we are used to seeing in Madison, Wisconsin for an alpaca show, there are definitely some nice quality suri alpacas. We brought a couple of our suri alpaca males we see as prospective future herdsires. It is our first show this year, and we are always interested to hear the opinions various judges have for our alpacas, and it is great to see what other nearby farms have brought as well.
So if you are looking for something to do this weekend, take a little drive up to the Great Midwest Alpaca Fest in Madison, WI and see what the alpaca show up there is all about. Be sure to stop by the silent auction and pick out something to help raise money for Alpaca Research Foundation and the UW-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine scholarship fund. Oh, and stop by our stall and say hello!
